Teacher Education

Inspire future generations in French

Qualified French teachers are in extremely high demand in all the French programs in British Columbia and in Canada (Core French, French Immersion and Francophone Program).

Did you graduate from a French immersion program or study French at high school or university? Have you lived or studied in a Francophone environment? If so, you may want to consider the French Module in the SFU's Teacher Education Programs.

Teacher Education Programs (PDP and PLP - French Module) focuse on the specific context of teaching in French in B.C. and prepare you to teach French or teach other subjects in French.

Choosing the French Module at SFU may give you access to bursaries and awards specific to studies in French. You will also have the opportunity to develop your network within the francophone community as well as within the French teaching community.

Why teach French or in French?

  • To have access to a rewarding career upon graduation
  • To be a part of a passionate community committed to educating and inspiring future generations
  • To have access throughout your studies and career to bursaries and professional development opportunities reserved to teaching in French
  • And finally, to contribute to the vitality of the national and even international Francophonie!

Why choose SFU?

SFU's Faculty of Education is renowned for the quality of its programs.  Preservice Professional Studies (PPS) offer a unique differentiated or complementary staffing model which teams tenure track Education Faculty with seconded, highly effective teachers selected from school districts throughout the province. The programs combine theory and practice adapted to today's classrooms.

Student teachers who successfully complete the programs are recommended to the Teacher Regulation Branch of the BC Ministry of Education for a Teaching Certificate.
